Powerful. A woman's voice, unmistakably, and more powerful for it, in that the reaction is visceral, emotional, the boy is seen as someone's child, in the context of a community. And the repercussions of such a brutal act are seen as echoing through time. Wonderful writing Mimi, moving and real and perfectly phrased. Moving so much emotion through carefully balanced prose is an outstanding achievement.
